Movie Parables Group
The Movie Parables Group is led by Louise and Alan Mairs.
It is a breakaway group of teenagers who meet every Sunday morning during Discoverers and the power of film is used to communicate and discuss our relationships with God.
Some of the movies we have seen include:
Freedom Writers, Apollo13, 12 Angry Men, Bicycle Thieves, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Fly Away Home and Groundhog Day.
The films we watch are specially chosen to raise issues such as forgiveness, justice, temptation, tolerance, faith, hope and love and we refer to Scripture throughout.
This month’s film parable – Chariots of Fire, 1981
Overview
Isaiah 40:31 - But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
This film is based on a true story about how a Jewish man (Harold Abrahams) and a Christian man (Eric Liddell), both won gold medals in the 1924 Olympics. It is an interesting study of how two people
can achieve the same glorious human prize with different motivations, reasons, and methods.
