We are a Fairtrade Church

Fairtrade does what it says on the tin.
It's about buying products that are guaranteed to be produced and traded fairly. It is about knowing that the person who grew it, or made it, got paid a fair wage for their hard work. It is about knowing that profits were invested in local communities and not skimmed off by big business.
Whilst it may take governments to solve many things, here's something we can do now. We can take responsibility for ethical purchasing by buying items marked with the Fairtrade Foundation's certified mark (left).
We took the pledge
Several years ago now, Stonelaw took the Fairtrade pledge and was accorded the status of a "Fairtrade Church".
This means we promised to:
- Use Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and in all meetings for which we have responsibility
- Move forward on using other Fairtrade products such as sugar, biscuits and fruit
- Promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and during the year through events, worship and other activities whenever possible

Going further
Fairtrade goods at The Meeting PlaceActually, we've gone further than that. For the last five years, we've been selling and promoting Fairtrade products to our whole community through The Meeting Place. Our Faitrade shop is now open five days a week.
We've also become a founder member of the Camglen Fairtrade Forum working to make Rutherglen and Cambuslang into Fairtrade towns.
